United States Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.  The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 5 to 18, who has a mental or physical disability.  Our goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US YOUTH SOCCER family.

Our first season of TOPSoccer (fall 2007) was a HUGE success.  For the fall 2008 season, TOPSoccer activities will be held every Saturday for six (6) weeks, beginning October 4th, from 9 am to 10 am at Field 2B.

The AHFSH Board and TOPSoccer participants and volunteers want to thank our TopSoccer sponsor: Cavender Auto Family.

"We Need Buddies"

One reason for the success of the TOPSoccer program is the participation of volunteer "Buddies" who work with the players, especially youth Buddies.   This is a great way to have fun at the fields while helping others, and you can also participate in order to satisfy community service hour requirements for school.

If you can help, or if you know of someone willing to volunteer, please contact Ray Bissmeyer at president@ahfsh.org

TOP Soccer FAQ

Q. What is TOPSoccer?
A. TOPSoccer (“The Outreach Program for Soccer”) is an amazing program! It opens up the game of soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability.  It started small, as a grassroots effort by parents with a wonderful vision.  The program was nurtured by US Youth Soccer, and it is now becoming one of the most widely praised youth sports programs in America .

Q. Do the players participate in games?
A. Where abilities and numbers permit, we will play with the assistance of Buddies, who will try to keep the game moving and help the players understand and play the game.  If we do not have a large enough group that is able to conduct a game, or if the ages and/or abilities of the participants vary widely, we will hold a training session.

Q. Is there an age limit?
A. At this time, the AHFSH TOPSoccer program is open to players who are between the ages of 5 and 18.

Q. When and where are the games / training sessions conducted?
A. Games and training sessions will take place at the AHFSH fields at Fort Sam Houston; for a map to fields, go to our Field Locations page . The field location and training/game time may vary from year to year.  For the fall 2008 season, games/training will be held for six (6) weeks beginning October 4th from 9 to 10 am at Field 2B.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. The cost is $40.00 for the fall 2008 season.

Q. Do the players get a uniform?
A. Yes, all players get a jersey, shorts and socks.  Players also receive a trophy at the end of the program.

Q. How do I register?
A. Unfortunately, our parent association has noy yet been able to integrate registration for TOPSoccer into our regular online registration system.  Parents wishing to register their children for TOPSoccer must complete both the STYSA (South Texas Youth Soccer) registration form and the AHFSH registration form.  (These are PDF documents; there is also a Spanish-language STYSA form available).  You may submit the completed forms, along with your registration fee ($40), at walk-in registration, or you can mail the completed forms with the registration fee to P.O. Box 6776, San Antonio, Texas 78209.  You may also submit your registration forms and fee to the AHFSH staff member in attendance on any Saturday during the program.  All players who have not played soccer with AHFSH previously will also need to submit copies of their birth certificates along with the registration forms.  For a list of walk-in registrations dates, times and locations, go to the Registration information page.

Q. Who can I email for additional information?
A. Ray Bissmeyer at president@ahfsh.org
